Design Engineering -2B Marks Scheme

Evaluation Scheme For

Design Engineering -2B (2160001) (6th Sem- Regular Student)
BE-III Year - All Branch

At the ensuing fourth semester examinations, the work of the students in Design Engineering 1B is to be evaluated and the evaluation is to be out of 80 marks.

PROCESS OF EVALUATION:

A Viva-Voce examination will be conducted at the end of the semester by a team of two examiners, one of whom will be an internal Faculty Member, who may have taught the subject (Internal examiner must remain the same throughout the entire of examination for batch). The other will be an external examiner to be appointed by the University. (Please note that all the other practical and viva voce examinations at the end of the 6 th semester will be conducted internally by the College/ Institute.)

Note:
1) Total Marks for the evaluation of practical examination: 80
2) Minimum passing marks: 40/80
3) Ratio of evaluation by internal/external examiner appointed: 50% in each sub-head
4) For preparation of the report, students shall follow the format provided by GTU.However,    depending on the case, the content may be modified as the case may be.
5) Examiner essentially needs to evaluate the learning process of the student during the semester, not only the final outcome. As outcome is important for any project but during the student stage, projects are intended for practical learning and “Learning by doing” is the Mantra for Design Engineering subject. (One should celebrate the failure and learn from it to get success). So please evaluate the process properly with giving sufficient time for each project.
6) Students need to explain all canvases/framework if any prepared in hard copy to the panel of examiners (internal and external).
7) Power point presentation is not mandatory but desirable.

EVALUATION SCHEME:

1)  Prototyping & Testing:  (15 Marks)
  • Versions of Prototypes with all possible modification and iterations to further refine the solutions (15 marks out of 25, for students who have made iterative versions for prototype with refinement; if students only present final prototype without any version/s or modification then this 15 marks will not be counted for such students)
  • Note: Report should carry all details/modification for the versions of prototype with images, it is not required to have different physical models for the different versions
  • All these iterative versions and its details with Testing/user feedback results (10 marks out of 25, if the details and testing/user feedback results are there)

2) Detail Design Calculation : (10 Marks)
  • It may include size & shape specifications, tolerances, material requirement, standards/safety rules/govt. policies, sketches, detail & assembly drawings, list of components with specifications etc.) These all aspects are case sensitive so one can add/remove some aspects from the list. (For CE, IT, other process related branches, one may also use Flow chart/Block Diagrams/Algorithms/Programming etc.)
  • Modelling, Simulation and Analysis (Software modelling), Mathematical model

3)Design for Use, Reuse and Sustainability: (10 Marks)
  • Design for USE – How long this design will work?
          o Reliability
          o Maintainability
  • Design for Reuse
  •  Design for Sustainability

4)  (10 Marks)
  • Measuring Instruments/ techniques - knowledge and use, manufacturing/fabrication process, electronic circuit/boards, open source tool
  •  Comparison of existing materials, methods/process, technology, tools and equipment for the project

5) Video of Prototypes (YouTube link): (5 Marks)

6) Report & Log book: (15 Marks)
  • Compilation of work, complete Log book, Future action plan, Question and Answer, Communication Skill

MIND MAPPING CANVAS

MIND MAPPING CANVAS

Hello everyone,

GTU introduce new MIND MAPPING canvas for 5th semester student.

You have to make only one MIND MAPPING canvas and One REPORT as per GTU standard format.

You can see GTU report format here.  (REPORT)

Brief Intro to MIND MAPPING CANVAS

There are mainly 5 thing you have to define in your canvas as below :

1) Your Project Heading/Title

2) Activities

3) Elements

4) Problems

5) Solution

Here I made an example of  MIND MAPPING CANVAS

You have to make this canvas using sketch pens or coloring  pen. There is no need to stick sticky notes.

As you can see in above canvas,Center cloud is containing project title / heading.

Note that you can make your title box in any shape like circle,rectangle,oval,etc..

In next step you have to draw five (5) lines/branches with one end connected to title box, As you can see above I draw 5 curvy line with one end connected to title box.

After drawing lines / branches you have to define line / branches by writing name on/under the line/branch as i write in above canvas.

i.e activity,elements,problem,solution

Now after completing above steps now you have to draw sub branches/lines from main five lines/branches..

Like :-

ACTIVITY   --you have to write an activity you observed during your visit for your project....

i.e. for my canvas...train passing, baggers were bagging, vehicle passing

ELEMENTS  --you have to write an elements you observed during your visit for your project....

                       i.e. (Non Living Items),signals,barriers,track,etc..

PROBLEM -- you have to define a problems you observed during your visit...
i.e for my canvas, there is too noise pollution and air pollution

SOLUTION   -- In this section you have to write solution for the problems you observed.

NOTE : For getting good Score in this design engineering canvas,
Draw Branches/Lines as more as you can.

Design Engineering ( DE ) - Canvas Format And Demo Model

Hello Everyone..,

GTU introduced four elements in Design Engineering as below

1) Learning Need Matrix

2) Product Development Canvas

3) "AEIOU " Framework

4) Working Model

Share your project idea we analysis it and we will tell parts you needed in your project and help you to build your project.
We also provides parts needed in your project

This canvases are developed by Prof. Parth Parekh to familiar with this canvas.
Brief intro to ,

1) Learning Need Matrix :-
you have to work along with this canvas upto your last year.Firstly you have to define your topic on "PURPOSE/PRODUCT CONCEPT" as shown in below canvas.you have to fill up canvas using sticky notes. If you are  working on this canvas during 2nd year then you have to stick notes on "During BE II " properly  and vice versa.

2)  Product Development Canvas :-

In this canvas you have to stick notes appropriate with subheading.

3) "AEIOU" Framework :-

 A - Activities

A- activities as the name suggests you have to describe all the activities you observed like if you are on signal crossing then you watched people, traffic police, trees, footpath, etc and the elements/note of that are stop vehicle, running vehicle etc by means of you have to describe some special notes on whatever you observed.

 E -  Environment

For Environment ... how's the environment during your observation. . Like warm, cloudy, soundly atmosphere, etc. ... and in element box you have to describe elements you observed like mobile, vehicle, etc.. you have to sketch floor plan and describe scene like a young man calling her friend.

 I -   Interactions

For Interaction as tittle tell you have to describe your interactions along people you observed.

O -  Objects

You have to describe observed object and user to correspondingly object frame and user framework.

U -  Users

NOTE: You have to fill out below canvas with sticky notes.

4) Working Model :-

If you are in 2nd year than you just have to make DEMO MODEL using thermocol and clay. And in last year you have to represent your working model. Here some Demo models made by Parth Parekh and his co-adjutor.
