There are four types of Mangers depending upon jobs & responsibilities:
Top Managers: Top managers hold position like Chief Executive Officer(CEO), Chief operating officer (COO), Chief financial officer(CFO) & Chief information officer(CFO) & are responsible for overall direction of organization. They are responsible for creating a context for change. Once the vision or mission is set develop employees’s commitment & ownership of company’s performance. Also they are responsible for positive organizational culture.
Also they are responsible for monitoring business environments.
Middle Managers: They hold position like Plant manager, regional manager & divisional manager. Responsible for setting objective consistent with top management’s goal & for planning & implementing sub-unit strategies for achieving those objectives. Another responsibility is to co-ordinate & link groups, departments & divisions within the company
First line managers: They hold positions like office manager, shift supervisor or department manager. Their responsibility is to manage performance of entry level employees, who are directly responsible for producing company’s goods & services. They are only manager who don’t supervise other managers. They encourage, monitor & reward performance of their workers. They also teach entry level employees how to do their job. They also make detailed schedules & plans based on middle management intermediate plans.
Team Leaders: This is new type of management developed as companies shifted to self managing teams.
